If there was ever a justification for what we do ... THIS IS IT.

I am shocked and distressed by the transcript of the conversation in the IRC room and am frankly disgusted by the self-preservationist attitudes of these IRC users who witnessed a young man do something incredibly stupid, waited too long to call the emergency services and then bottled at the last minute because they were afraid of repercussions.

If ever there was a time when laws would be brought into power to hold us responsible for our virtual words, this is it.

My condolences to the family of Brandon. What he did was incredibly foolish, as anyone can tell you that taking prescription drugs that are not for you, or not in line with the prescription is dangerous, and mixing drugs without consulting medical professionals is incredibly dangerous and volatile.

He did a very foolish thing, but sometimes people do foolish things for serious reasons. Wherever Brandon is now, i hope he found his answers.

In some ways it's a little sad; MM is without a doubt the first, and biggest, [OwP] server, and the MM guys have always been incredibly helpful and prolific on our forums. however, I am sure that having a new site and new forums does not mean we will lose our beloved Marauders!

Okay lads, currently all you're getting is my mp3 collection with the occasional shoutout and request, but I really want to make this radio station something, and I will need YOUR HELP. I would ideally like to make it the real-time centre of our community, broadcasting everything from general gaming and [OwP] news, to wider news, to match commentary, different DJs, the lot.

To do that we're gonna need a number of things. We need a website, a good host for the station and some publicity.

Now the website is cool. I’m in the process of designing one as part of my night class course, and it's shaping up well. I hope to have it online in about six weeks and a teaser online very soon. The publicity will go with the website, quite probably, either way our listener base will build steadily.

The crux of the issue at the minute is hosting. The station is currently running off my home box, which is on a 1mbit connection. I can host nearly a dozen listeners at any one time which is cool for now but as we grow will prove inadequate. Also, if I have to go offline for whatever reason the station does too, and I have to listen to winamp all the time, even if I have other DJs connecting.

Now SHOUTcast is the software we are using to broadcast with, and there are linux and windows versions of it. Alas I am crap at linux. What we ideally need is someone or somewhere that can host a fat upstream connection, possibly even a T1. If you know of anyone that has about 512k upstream or more to spare, and is feeling charitable, PLEASE let me know so that I can try to obtain a host to meet our growing needs.

We may turn to commercial server operators for sponsorship of a SHOUTcast server later on, but so far they have not been forthcoming, with the exception of the most excellent ReconGamer. Alas I was offline and never finalised the arrangements with my contact.

In summary; if you want to help [OwP] grow, help us with the radio station! We need to expand our listener base, we need DJs and most of all we need a server host!
