Exclusive Gabe Newell Interview | Pvt.Snail

Interview with Gabe Newell

The gang at Half Life Radio, who made it to E3, have made the transcript available from the interview with Gabe Newell.
It deals with the development of Half Life 2, the release, and information about HL mods among other things.

It is definitiely worth a going over.

A question in the interview:
Half-Life Radio: Any release date in mind? I know you don't want to be specific with dates but what's in mind?

Gabe Newell: This summer. We're just going to keep tuning it, the performance optimizations are done that we run on our DX6, DX7 hardware which was a big goal for us. So really, it's about tuning the game, tuning the game and tuning the game. When we feel we've got the quality level then we'll release it.

To the interview...

dod_crossfire released. | Pvt.Snail

Greenhorn has released his final version of dod_crossfire. The map has been tested and played through by our friends at Mike's Marauders and can be downloaded from their DoD map download section, here.

This map is very original for Day of Defeat, because it requires both teams to capture flags from the other team and return them to your spawn in order to win. Something that was very popular with the Classic Team Fortress style of Flag-grabbing.
This map is really a nice change and plays well with both a small and a large group of people. There are more pictures available at http://www.dodmaps.com/. Enjoy it and have FUN!

RO Delay and More... | Pvt.Snail

Delay and More - by Jeremy on the RO site.
Well as many of you have heard, by rumor perhaps, the Red Orchestra team has decided that it is in our best interest to delay 2.0. The main reason for this is because of the upcoming UT2004 patch, which we would like to see be released before we make 2.0 public. Anyhow, the new release date is May 20th, so mark your calenders. We would also like to inform you that we've recently had an interview with RedOrchestraMod.de, our official German Fansite. This interview can be found in either German or English. There are also new screenshots from this interview, which is in our screenshots section. Below is a little sample.

The Chat N' Frag event with Gamespy is still going down, and will take place 5pm EST on May 20th. We also intend to release a 2.0 Trailer before release, but the date of that is to be announced. We have a lot of work ahead of us to get 2.0 as solid as possible, so we as a team would appreciate it if you guys, the community, will support us in our decision to delay 2.0. With this delay comes an even better release for you.

Oh, and we might give you a little present on the 7th to tide you over for now.

DoD 1.2, Screenshots... | Pvt.Snail

New dod_glider screenshots:

Fuzzdad has released two new screenshots in the official Day of Defeat Forums from the revamped DoD v1.2 dod_glider map. The map objectives have not changed at all from the original. One question which was asked of course was 'When is DoD v1.2 being released?'...the answer - "When it's done". So there you have it, patience all...it will be worth it!

Now to check those pictures out...

Half-Life 2 Update... | Pvt.Snail

Some new information:

-There are humans (Dr. Breen) encouraging cooperation with the Combine.

-Father Grigory is a monk who is on your side...you must cross a cemetary with him at night.

-Valve, having completed the Source engine, now intends to make a lot of content for it. They will be making additional missions, backstory, minigames, and other titles available through Steam. An example of this is a set of missions to tell Alyx's backstory.

-"Roller Mines" are balls that roll along the ground and stick to vehicles, draining them of energy.

-Gabe Newell says that the main reason for the delay is their poor planning, and their lack of understanding of how hard it would be for the HL2 team to work after the leak demoralized them.

-TF2 and Half-Life 3 are confirmed. It will NOT be another five years for HL3, the game will be using an improved Source engine.

-A quote: "On the evidence we've experienced first hand, Valve seems well on course to achieving its goals of providing an unparalleled cinematic shooting experience, one that's threatening to not oly knock A-List top dog shooter Far Cry off its perch, but potentially blow it away. And in just a few short months time, you'll be able to find out for yourself if Valve has pulled it off."

Teamplayers of the match. | Pvt.Snail

Congratulations to the TeamPlayers of the match for the 24th of April. We had a great turn out, and we wish to say...Thank You!

Unfortunately it was such a tense game, only one game picture was to be had...it made the featured screenshot for now.

Mortyr and Wolfshade tied for the Allied vote and that Snail guy pulled through on the Axis team. Well done you three on keeping the team's interest above all! Good Job.
